Samruk Energy, China Energy to build 800 MW of solar, wind energy capacity in Kazakhstan

ALMATY. Oct 15 (Interfax) - Samruk Energy and China Energy Overseas Investment have signed an agreement to develop solar and wind energy in Kazakhstan, the Samruk Kazyna state fund said.

Nurlan Zhakupov, CEO of Samruk Kazyna, and Lyu Zexiang, Chairman of China Energy International Group, signed the document in Beijing.

This project includes the construction of a 500 MW wind power plant in the Karaganda region and a 300 MW solar power plant in the Turkestan region.

Samruk Kazyna and China Energy Overseas Investment, a subsidiary of China Energy International Group, signed a memorandum of understanding on renewable energy during the Kazakhstan-China Business Council in Astana on July 2 this year.

China Energy International Group is the largest company globally in the coal mining, thermal power, wind energy, coal processing, and water industry sectors. Samruk Energy is Kazakhstan's largest power holding company, fully owned by Samruk Kazyna. Its primary activities include the production of electric and thermal energy, electricity transmission, distribution and sales, as well as energy coal mining.
