Nearly 500 communities throughout Ukraine remain without electricity - Energy Ministry
MOSCOW. Oct 15 (Interfax) - In total, 495 communities across Ukraine remained partially or fully cut off from electricity for various reasons, including technical breaches, as of this morning, Ukrainian media reported, quoting the Energy Ministry as saying on social media.
There were power outages in Dnepropetrovsk, Nikolayev, Kharkov, Chernigov and a number of other regions over the past 24 hours, it said.
A power substation, household consumers and the streetcar and trolleybus park were cut off from electricity in the Odessa region due to technological failures with subsequent traffic disruptions, it said. The power supply was restored using a back-up scheme.
An equipment fire that broke out at a power substation in the Sumy region resulted in an overhead power transmission line outage, which cut off electricity to the substation, household and industrial consumers. The fire was put out and the power supply was restored.
In total, the power engineers have restored power supply to 43,783 consumers over the past 24 hours.
Electricity is expected to be imported from Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary, and Moldova with a total volume of 6,400 MWh and a capacity of 1,400 MW within the current 24-hour period, it said.
