Turkmen president sees transport, energy as promising areas for cooperation with Mongolia

ASHGABAT. Oct 14 (Interfax) - Transport and logistics, energy and communications are promising areas of Turkmen-Mongolian cooperation, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper quoted Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov as saying.

"The talks focused on issues related to the trade and economic cooperation," Berdimuhamedov said after talks with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, who paid his first state visit to Ashgabat on October 10-13.

"Given the need to provide a proper impetus, I ordered to study ways to expand mutual trade and accelerate investment policies. Partnership between the two countries' business communities is also expected to play an important role in achieving these goals," he said.

"We discussed with interest the prospects for implementation of the East-West corridor via the territories of Mongolia and Central Asia. In this regard, I also suggested that Mongolian partners consider the possibility of mutually profitable use of Turkmenistan's infrastructure in the Caspian Sea," Berdimuhamedov said.

The meeting confirmed the serious potential of cooperation between the two countries, he said.

During the talks between the government delegations, Berdimuhamedov mentioned the prospects of mutually profitable partnership in the energy sector, Neutral Turkmenistan said.

"Our country is ready to consider options of using Mongolia as one of the participants in the supply of energy resources to Turkmenistan eastward," Berdimuhamedov said.

He said Turkmenistan has capabilities to implement schemes to supply to Mongolia fuel and energy sector products and a broad range of oil and gas-derived chemicals.
