Japan's JETRO opens office in Kiev

MOSCOW. Oct 11 (Interfax) - The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) has opened an office in Kiev, Ukrainian media reported.

"Having opened the office, we have also set up a Ukrainian business division at JETRO's headquarters, which has decided to invite a team to support business between Ukraine and Japan. We have come with 10 major Japanese companies and start-ups equipped with advanced technology and firmly committed to supporting Ukraine's reconstruction," Ukrainian media quoted JETRO Chairman and CEO Norihiko Ishiguro as saying in a statement on the office's opening in Kiev on Thursday.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal, who also took part in the ceremony, said the inauguration of JETRO's office in Kiev would open up new opportunities for Japanese businesses in Ukraine, including cooperation in the energy, infrastructure reconstruction, agriculture, engineering, IT, and other sectors.

The Japanese companies that are willing to cooperate with Ukrainian businesses include Itochu Corporation (offers investment products, but in Ukraine is interested in joining machine-building projects, trade in foodstuffs, chemicals, and metals, and the automotive industry), Taichi Holding Limited (develops air conditioning systems and sells construction equipment), Nippon Express Holdings Inc (logistics), Green (clean solutions for the agribusiness sector), NTC International Co (consulting in the agribusiness sector), Spec Company Limited (develops the soil hardening agent called STEIN), Waku Business (glutathione-based fertilizers), LocationMind (big data analysis), and CTL Cell Unit (construction of modular homes).

JETRO is an independent administrative institution under the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry to promote Japan's trade and economic cooperation with other countries.
