Ukraine's DTEK Energy commissioned 16 new coal faces in 9M

MOSCOW. Oct 11 (Interfax) - Ukraine's DTEK Energy commissioned 16 new coal faces in January-September 2024, Ukrainian media reported, quoting the company's press service.

The company plans to put nine more coal faces into operation by the end of the year.

"This enables us to meet the needs of thermal power plants for fuel when electricity consumption peaks, to build the coal reserves needed to get through the autumn-winter period and to keep the Ukrainian energy system operating reliably," it said.

DTEK Energy has invested nearly UAH 18 billion of its own funds in Ukrainian coal mining since the crisis began.

The money was invested building and overhauling mine workings, equipping coal faces, supplying tunneling machinery and underground mine transport and projects to maintain production capacity.

DTEK Energy commissioned 26 new coal faces in 2023.

It invested around UAH 7 billion in Ukrainian coal mining in 2023, almost twice as much as in 2022.

DTEK Energy is an integrated coal and power generating company. Its coal division mines and processes coal, and produces and services mining equipment.
