Ukrenergo plans to introduce at least 600 MW of new generation capacity by end of 2024, to hook floating power plants up to grid

MOSCOW. Oct 10 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian power grid operator Ukrenergo expects at least 600 MW of new generation capacity to be introduced by the end of 2024 and is preparing infrastructure for launching floating power plants, acting Ukrenergo Board Chairman Alexei Brekht said.

"We've been meeting with the Energy Ministry and the government almost on a daily basis, and I expect a positive effect of at least 600 MW of new generation capacity to be available before the end of the year. This could be accomplished through using sources that are already constructed and constructing new ones," Ukrainian media quoted Brekht as saying at Forbes's Energy of Business forum.

The company is actively preparing to launch gas-fired floating power plants, Brekht said.

"By December 1, we and our partners [operating] the distribution and gas networks will make the infrastructure ready for adding 250 MW of capacity to the grid," he said.

"We're speaking of the situation that we have now," without possible force majeure events taken into account, he said.
