Ukraine sowing land with winter crops faster than last year - Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry

MOSCOW. Oct 8 (Interfax) - Ukrainian farmers have sown 3.8 million hectares of farmland with winter crops as of October 8, up from 2.8 million hectares a week ago, Ukrainian media reported citing the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry as saying in a statement.

Winter wheat has been sown on 2.6 million hectares (1.7 million hectares a week ago), barley on 208,800 hectares (119,400 hectares), rye on 45,900 hectares (34,800 hectares), and rapeseed on 986,400 hectares (932,900 hectares).

Farmers in the Ternopol region have sown winter grain crops on 165,800 hectares of farmland, or 84.2% of the target, followed by farmers in the Volyn region who have sown winter crops on 127,500 hectares (77%), the Poltava region (182,700 hectares, 73.5%), and the Cherkassy region (119,200 hectares, 71.9%). Farmers in nine regions have finished sowing winter rapeseed.

As of the same date in 2023, Ukraine sowed 3.7 million hectares of farmland with winter crops, including 2.352 million hectares with wheat, 1.111 million hectares with rapeseed, 171,000 hectares with barley, and 60,000 hectares with rye.
