Kazakhstan harvests 24.1 mln tonnes of grain from nearly 95% of sown area
ALMATY. Oct 8 (Interfax) - Kazakhstan's farmers had harvested 24.1 million tonnes of grains and legumes from 15.8 million hectares or 94.6% of the sown area as of October 8, the Agriculture Ministry said.
Average yield was 15.2 centners per hectare.
Kazakhstan harvested 18.4 million tonnes of wheat from 12.7 million ha at average yield of 14.5 centners/ha, 3.6 million tonnes of barley from 2.1 million ha at 17.1 centners/ha and 292,200 tonnes of oats from 177,000 ha at 16.5 centners/ha.
Farmers had harvested more than 1.1 million tonnes of oilseed crops from 958,700 ha at 11.1 centners/ha, 2.6 million tonnes of potatoes from 112,000 ha at 232.5 centners/ha, more than 2.9 million tonnes of vegetables from 108,100 ha at 273.3 centners/ha and more than 2.6 million tonnes of melons and gourds from 98,100 ha at 263.9 centners/ha.
Concessional financing for spring field work and harvesting has almost tripled compared with previous years to 580 billion tenge, the ministry said.
The total area under crops this year is 23.3 million ha.
Kazakhstan has capacity to store 30 million tonnes of grain, enough for the new harvest and carryover stocks from past years, the government has said.
Kazakhstan is expecting a grain harvest of 25 million tonnes in 2024. The country harvested 16.6 million tonnes of grain, including 12.11 million tonnes of wheat, with an average yield of 9.7 centners per hectare in 2023, and 21.6 million tonnes in 2022.
