Ukrainian agrarians thresh 56.6 mln tonnes of grains, oilseeds - Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry
MOSCOW. Oct 7 (Interfax) - Ukrainian farmers have harvested 56.6 million tonnes of the new crop on 15.8 million hectares as of October 4, compared to 50.4 million tonnes on 14.2 million hectares a week earlier.
A total of 37.3 million tonnes of grains and legumes (versus 34.3 million tonnes before), 15.8 million tonnes of oilseeds (13.6 million tonnes), and 3,500 tonnes of sugar beet (2,500 tonnes) have been harvested, Ukrainian media said, citing the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry.
Wheat harvesting has been finalized, the ministry said. Ukraine has harvested 22.3 million tonnes of wheat on 4.9 million hectares with an average yield of 42.4 centners per hectare, in addition to 5.5 million tonnes of barley on 1.4 million hectares with an average yield of 39.2 centners per hectare, and 465.3 million tonnes of peas on 212,200 hectares with an average yield of 21.9 centers per hectare.
Corn harvesting is continuing. Ukraine has harvested 7.7 million tonnes of corn (versus 4.72 million a week before) on 1.5 million hectares (37% of the plan), 121,800 tonnes of buckwheat (115,500 tonnes) on 84,300 hectares (95%), and 154,800 tonnes of millet (147,750 tonnes) on 84,300 hectares (88%).
The harvesting of oilseeds is continuing. In particular, Ukraine has threshed 3.457 million tonnes of rapeseed (3.4 million tonnes a week before) on 1.266 million hectares (100%), 4.277 million tonnes of soybeans (3.5 million tonnes) on 1.97 million hectares (74%), and 8 million tonnes of sunflower seeds (6.659 million tonnes) on 3.9 million hectares (79%).
The grain harvesting has been the largest in the Odessa region (4.2 million tonnes), the Poltava region (3.3 million tonnes) and the Vinnitsa region (2.6 million tonnes). The yield has been the largest in the Khmelnitsky region (64.3 centers per hectare), the Ivano-Frankovsk region (59 centners per hectare) and the Ternopol region (61.3 centners per hectare).
