Works by Chagall, Malevich, Kandinsky from Russian Museum's collection displayed at exhibition in China

MOSCOW. Oct 2 (Interfax) - More than 50 avant-garde works, including by Marc Chagall, Kazimir Malevich and Wassily Kandinsky, from the Russian Museum collection have been displayed at an exhibition dedicated to the history of Russian avant-garde at the Linping Museum in China, the Russian Culture Ministry said.

"Over 50 avant-garde masterpieces from the Russian Museum's collection were on display at an exhibition in China's Hangzhou [...]. The Russian Museum has the world's most extensive collection of works of the Russian avant-garde. Works by the main masters of this trend were selected for the exposition. Such great names as Wassily Kandinsky, Kazimir Malevich, Pavel Filonov, and Marc Chagall are among the represented artists," the ministry told reporters.

The exposition also features materials familiarizing viewers with Kandinsky's illustrations to his poems, Filonov's works to the works of Velimir Khlebnikov, one of the founders of Russian Futurism, and Chagall's drawings to a fairytale by writer Nister. The works of each of the artists displayed at the exhibition are accompanied by films about their life and creative path made by the Russian Museum.

Malevich's Red Square and Self-Portrait, Chagall's Walk, Filonov's Formula of Spring and Kandinsky's Twilight are among the works on display.

The From the History of the Russian Avant-Garde exhibition project of the Russian Museum familiarizes the Chinese audience with the main avant-garde works. The largest Chinese cities are hosting the project. The exhibition was previously held at the Grand Canal Museum in the city of Yangzhou. After the display in Hangzhou, the exhibition will open at the Tianfu Art Museum in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, at the end of 2024.
