Domestic communication system installed at Angara launch site in Vostochny

MOSCOW. Oct 2 (Interfax) - An optical radio transmission system has been developed in Russia for the Angara launch site at Vostochny Cosmodrome; previously, such equipment was imported, Roscosmos' press service said on Wednesday.

"In 2022, representatives of TsENKI [the Center for Ground-Based Space Infrastructure Facilities Operation from the Roscosmos Group] chose equipment for optical radio transmission at Vostochny Cosmodrome. Novicom proposed that a domestic product be developed, given the policy of unfriendly states [restrictions on the supply of communication equipment] and the absence of Russian analogues," the press service said.

In the past, "Russian enterprises could buy such equipment exclusively from abroad," it said.

"The RECOM optical radio transmission system successfully transmitted a TETRA radio signal in April 2024 during test flights of the Angara space system [the launch of an Angara-A5 rocket with an Orion upper stage and a test payload]," it said.
