Belarus interested in developing cooperation with IAEA, including on handling of radioactive waste - deputy PM

MINSK. Oct 1 (Interfax) - Belarus is interested in further cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Karankevich said during a working meeting with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi on the grounds of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant.

"We are interested in further developing interaction with the Agency, including in new areas like management of radioactive waste," Karankevich said, as quoted by the Belarusian Energy Ministry.

Belarus is looking to implement a major construction project to create a radioactive waste disposal facility in the country, he said.

"We would be very grateful to you for any possible assistance in building this facility. All in all, we are interested in using the entire toolkit of IAEA capabilities for studying the world's best practices," Karankevich said.
