Russian agency considering venues for Belarusian port in Primorye, estimates transshipment amounts at 10 mln tonnes

SAMARA. Sept 26 (Interfax) - The Russian Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport is considering possible venues for a Belarusian port in Primorye Territory, agency head Andrei Tarasenko told reporters.

"We are exploring various options, up to the Irtysh," Tarasenko said in response to a question regarding where the port might be built.

In his opinion, the port may transship ten million tonnes of mineral fertilizers per year.

As reported, Belarus plans to open a port in Primorye Territory with a link to the Northern Sea Route. A venue for the Belarusian port in Primorye is due to be chosen this year, Primorye Governor Oleg Kozhemyako said. Belarus needs a port in Primorye as an important part of the transit route to China. A team of Belarusian specialists in port projects visited Primorye at the beginning of 2024.
