Russia obtains right to supply lentils to India on regular basis - Rosselkhoznadzor
MOSCOW. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Russia has obtained the right to supply lentils to India on a regular basis, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) said, citing notification from India's Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
Rosselkhoznadzor at the end of 2020 launched the procedure for admitting Russian lentils to the Indian market. India's Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine and Storage in September 2021 presented the quarantine phytosanitary requirements for lentils and authorized the supply of trial shipments that began in 2022 under the supervision of Rosselkhoznadzor.
The Indian side has confirmed the compliance of all shipments of Russian lentils with the quarantine phytosanitary requirements and has authorized supplies on a regular basis as based on the results of laboratory tests.
Data from the Argus-Fito federal government information system indicate that Russia had ramped up supplies of leguminous crops to India 23-fold year-on-year to 545,000 tonnes since the beginning of the year as on September 22, 2024.
