Power of Siberia pipeline to reach design capacity of 38 bcm per year a month early, in Dec 2024

MOSCOW. Sept 20 (Interfax) - The Power of Siberia gas pipeline will reach design capacity of 38 billion cubic meters per year ahead of schedule.

Alexei Miller, CEO of Russia's Gazprom , and Dai Houliang, Chairman of China's CNPC, held a working meeting in Beijing on Friday.

"A supplement to the gas purchase and sale agreement via the 'Eastern' route was signed at the meeting. Following a request by the Chinese partners, the parties agreed on additional supplies in December 2024. Thus, daily gas supplies to China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline will reach their maximum contract level earlier than scheduled - previously, this was planned for the beginning of 2025," Gazprom said.

According to the initial schedule, full ramp-up was supposed to be achieved in a few months - from the beginning of 2025.

The annual 38 bcm implies daily supplies of 108-109 million cubic meters, while the 2024 contract provides for daily supplies of about 86 mcm based on an annual volume of 30 bcm.

Russian gas exports via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline to China began in 2019.

Gazprom also said it was "ensuring steady supplies via the 'Eastern' route, the Power of Siberia gas pipeline, regularly in excess of the company's daily contractual obligations."

It also said that "construction of the second, 'Far Eastern' route is on schedule."
