Russia allows ammonium nitrate exports through Kandalaksha port

MOSCOW. Sept 18 (Interfax) - The Russian government has included the Kandalaksha seaport in Murmansk Region in the list of border checkpoints through which ammonium nitrate can be exported, a resolution posted on the official website for legal information showed.

The Big Port of St. Petersburg suspended handling of ammonium nitrate, which is potentially explosive, in the spring of 2024 amid drone attacks, forcing fertilizer producers to look for alternative export routes.

The head of the Russian Fertilizer Producers Association, Andrei Guryev said in June that the Industry and Trade Ministry and Transport Ministry were working on finding and building facilities to handle fertilizer, and that the ports of Arkhangelsk and Kandalaksha, among others, were being considered for this purpose.

The Port of Arkhangelsk was included in the list of border checkpoints through which ammonium nitrate can be exported earlier.
