Kazakh-German Skyhansa consortium to build airport on Kazakh-Chinese border
ASTANA. Sept 17 (Interfax) - Kazakh-German consortium Skyhansa plans to build a cargo and passenger airport in the Zhetysu region, the press service of the Transport Ministry said in a press release.
A framework agreement for the construction of a cargo and passenger airport in the Khorgos-Eastern Gate Special Economic Zone was signed during German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's visit to Kazakhstan.
Private investment in the project will total $500 million and will create over 300 jobs.
The new airport will handle up to 500 passengers per hour. It will have a tank farm to store for 550,000 tonnes of fuel per year and a cargo terminal with a handling capacity of up to 250,000 tonnes per year. The airport will also have an aircraft maintenance center, tourist and entertainment facilities.
