MSF closing operations in Russia

BRUSSELS. Sept 16 (Interfax) - The independent non-commercial medical organization Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) announced the termination of its operations in Russia on Monday.

"Thirty-two years after starting work in Russia, Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) had to close our operations in the country," MSF said in a statement published on its website.

According to the statement, in August 2024 MSF received "a letter from the Ministry of Justice of Russia, with the decision to withdraw the affiliate office of the non-profit association Medecins Sans Frontieres (Netherlands) in Russia from the register of affiliate and representative offices of foreign NGOs."

"It is with a heavy heart that we have to close our activities in Russia," the head of MSF programs in Russia said.

MSF has operated in Russia since 1992. The organization has implemented projects in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Chechnya, Dagestan, and some other regions of Russia, the statement said.
