Foreign direct investment in Georgia's economy falls 34% YoY in H1 2024
TBILISI. Sept 9 (Interfax) - Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Georgia's economy fell 34% year-on-year to $768.6 million in January-June 2024, the National Statistics Service said.
FDI rose 10.3% year-on-year to $574.3 million in Q2 2024, including reinvestment totaling $451.3 million and equity investments totaling $101 million.
Regarding industry structure in the second quarter, the financial and insurance sectors accounted for $300.1 million in FDI, trade accounted for $79.2 million, and manufacturing accounted for $55.5 million. These sectors accounted for 75.7% of overall FDI received during the period.
In terms of the amount of FDI in the second quarter, the UK led with $266.7 million, Japan with $59.2 million, and Malta with $37.9 million.
FDI in Georgia's economy dropped 24% year-on-year to $1.6 billion in 2023 after growing 1.6-fold year-on-year to $2 billion in 2022.
