Russia's Energy Ministry developing program to construct stations with capacity of 11 GW in Far East
MOSCOW. Sept 6 (Interfax) - Russia's Energy Ministry sees the need to construct an additional 11 GW of capacity in the country's Far East, Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev said during an interview with Rossiya 24 TV.
"We are currently developing a program to construct power plants with capacity of 11 GW in the Far Eastern Federal District," he said.
Tsivilev said that this involves the period up to the end of 2030. "Some of the projects would be implemented by the end of 2030, and some would be transferred to 2030-2036," he said, noting that this involves transferring projects for nuclear power plants and hydroelectric power plants beyond 2030.
The System Operator previously posted on social media that, "Developing generating capacity in the Far Eastern Federal District envisages changing installed capacity from 17.5 GW to over 27 GW."
Among the expected increase, 2.6 GW have already been included in the plan and program to develop the power systems of Russia, the special individual development program, regarding the power system in the East and the Southeastern areas of Siberia.
