Belarus proposes eliminating import duties on diesel engines in EAEU

MINSK. Sept 6 (Interfax) - Belarus is proposing to reduce import duties on diesel engines to zero within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to support production of mine equipment at Belaz, Belarusian Deputy Economics Minister Alesya Abramenko said at a meeting of the Belarusian and Russian economy ministries' interagency working group.

"We're counting on Russia's support in discussions with EAEU partners on the Belarusian initiative to reduce customs duties on diesel engines to zero. An affirmative decision on this issue is important for man flagships of [Belarusian] mechanical engineering, such as Belaz, which is one of the largest manufacturers of mine equipment in the EAEU," Abramenko was quoted as saying by her ministry's press service.

She also said Belarus is hoping to increase elevator exports to Russia and expand opportunities to participate in work to install elevator equipment in residential and industrial buildings in Russia.

To this end, it is "necessary to quickly eliminate obstacles for the work of businesses on the common market of the Union State," Abramenko said.

The ministry also said that officials at the meeting discussed the possibility of integrating the national segments of the electronic vehicle title systems created in Belarus and Russia to support exports of Belarusian-made vehicles to the Russian market.
