Dep Russian PM Savelyev re-elected as chairman of Russian Railways board

MOSCOW. Sept 4 (Interfax) - Deputy Russian Prime Minister Vitaly Savelyev has been re-elected as chairman of the board of directors at OJSC Russian Railways.

The Russian Railways board of directors was due to elect its chairman on August 30. The company itself did not disclose the results of the meeting, but Savelyev mentioned in an interview with Rossiya 24 on the on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum that he was the board chairman.

Savelyev first chaired the Russian Railways board of directors in June this year.

"I will be responsible for the construction of the Eastern Polygon. I have become chairman of Russian Railways board. I hope they will leave me on the supervisory board of Aeroflot ," Savelyev told Rossiya-24 on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum in June, when asked what he would oversee as deputy prime minister. He was appointed deputy PM in May, before which he was transport minister.

The post had been held by Andrei Belousov since 2020, but he was moved from the post of first deputy prime minister, in which he oversaw transport, among other areas, to that of Russian defense minister in May.

A board of 14 Russian Railways directors was elected in July. It includes Russian Transport Minister Roman Starovoit, Energy Sergei Tsivilev and Digital Development Minister Maksut Shadayev.
