Russian airlines to carry at least 5% more passengers in 2024 - minister
VLADIVOSTOK. Sept 4 (Interfax) - Russian airlines will fly at least 5% more passengers this year than last and more also than the 98.1 million written into the aviation sector's comprehensive development program, Transport Minister Roman Starovoit told Interfax.
"It'll be higher of course. We see at least 5% growth," he said on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum, when asked about anticipated passenger numbers this year.
Russian Federal Air Transport Agency head Dmitry Yadrov said at the beginning of July that Russian airlines could carry 98.1 million passengers in 2024 as per the comprehensive development program. "For now, we are approaching the figure of 98.1 million. There will be a clearer understanding in August-September what will be the final figure of passenger traffic for Russian civil aviation by the end of 2024," he said.
Russian airlines carried 63.2 million passengers in January-July 2024, up 6.9% year-on-year. They carried 105.4 million in 2023, up 10.7%.
