RusHydro to start process of unbundling power grid assets in 2025

VLADIVOSTOK. Sept 4 (Interfax) - RusHydro plans to begin the process of unbundling power grid assets in 2025, a member of the power company's management board, Roman Berdnikov told reporters on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

"We will unbundle Yakutskenergo , we're not backing away from these actions. We will unbundle Yakutskenergo, separate grids and then we will wait for a decision from the government: to sell, transfer or something else. We will have two grid assets that will then have to be passed on somewhere [the second being DRSK]," Berdnikov said.

"We will begin the corporate procedure on January 1 [2025]," he said.

RusHydro has a number of power grid assets in Russia's Far East, which is now in the non-price zone of the energy market. There are plans to include the Far East in the second price zone of the market in 2025, however, the law on the electricity sector prohibits combining the businesses of power generation and transmission.

The Federal Antimonopoly Service announced in the spring of 2023 that it had worked out a plan to unbundle power grid assets from RusHydro. The company said at the time that the decision on the fate of these assets will be up to the authorities, but that it would prefer not to "gift" any of its assets.
