Almost 4,000 vehicles waiting to cross EU border from Belarus

MINSK. Aug 30 (Interfax) - Almost 4,000 vehicles are waiting to cross the EU border from Belarus, the Belarusian State Border Committee said in a statement on Friday.

"The number of vehicles headed to the EU is nearing 4,000. The neighboring countries are artificially increasing that number by more slowly clearing vehicles from Belarus," the statement said.

As of noon, 3,755 trucks, cars and buses were waiting to cross into the EU, it said.

The number of trucks waiting to enter Poland has grown almost 300 since the beginning of this week, compared to 70 vehicles awaiting entry to Lithuania. The number is unchanged at the Latvian border.

"The number of cars has grown only at the Lithuanian border, from 10 to 320, over the week," it said.

On Thursday, the Belarusian State Border Committee said that over 3,500 vehicles were stranded at the Belarusian-EU border.
