Russian Transport Ministry sees seaport cargo traffic up 2% in Aug, flat in 2024

SVIYAZHSK, Tatarstan. Aug 30 (Interfax) - Russia's Transport Ministry expects cargo traffic at the country's seaports to increase by 2% year-on-year in August, but remain flat for the whole year, Deputy Transport Minister Alexander Poshivai told reporters.

"For August we're up 2% compared to the same month last year," Poshivai said when asked about the growth of cargo traffic this month.

"For 2024, cargo turnover at Russia's seaports will remain at the 2023 level and could total 884 million tonnes," he said.

The Federal Maritime and River Transport Agency reported earlier that cargo traffic at Russia's seaports grew by 5% to 883.8 million tonnes in 2023. The head of the agency, Andrei Tarasenko said in July that seaport cargo traffic will remain at last year's level in 2024.
