Gazprom doubled gas supplies to Central Asia in 8M
MOSCOW. Aug 29 (Interfax) - Gazprom doubled gas supplies to Central Asia in January-August, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said at a conference call dedicated to Oil and Gas Industry Workers Day.
"We are expanding cooperation with countries of Central Asia. Energy consumption in these countries is growing very quickly. These republics are developing very intensively in economic and social terms. And this opens up new opportunities for us. We doubled gas supplies to this region in January-August alone, over eight months," he said.
"Currently, the nominations we are meeting for gas supplies to Uzbekistan are via the Central Asia - Center gas pipeline at technically the highest possible level. At the winter level. At the level at which we supplied gas to Uzbekistan last winter, when unusually severe cold weather set in there," he said.
Miller mentioned Kyrgyzstan separately. The level of gasification in the country has doubled in the 10 years since Gazprom Kyrgyzstan was set up.
After a long period of steady growth, gas consumption in Uzbekistan has had to decline in recent years due to lower production. The country became a net importer of natural gas in 2023
Russia started to supply gas to Uzbekistan through the territory of Kazakhstan in October 2023. Agreements to broaden strategic cooperation have been signed with the countries in the region.
Gazprom is confident its supplies to the region will contribute to the dynamic development of the Central Asian economies in the long term.
