Ukrainians exchange 40 mln incandescent bulbs for energy-saving ones - EU delegation
MOSCOW. Aug 29 (Interfax) - A program supported by the European Union under which Ukrainians have been encouraged to exchange incandescent bulbs for energy-saving ones for free has successfully concluded, Ukrainian media have reported with reference to the website of the EU delegation to Ukraine.
As the program launched at the end of January 2023, Ukrainians have exchanged 40 million incandescent bulbs for modern LED-ones. The project was organized among a wide range of the population and was later joined by legal entities such as schools, kindergartens, and medical institutions.
Geographically, the Kiev region led the campaign with 4.2 million exchanges, followed by the Lvov (3.2 million), Dnepropetrovsk (3.1 million), and Kharkov (2.3 million) regions.
"We've reduced incandescent bulbs by 40 million, potentially saving up to 1 GW of electricity," Ukrainian Deputy Economy Minister Nadezhda Bigun said.
As reported, since January 30, 2023, Ukrainians had the opportunity to exchange five traditional incandescent bulbs for the same number of energy-saving LED-bulbs to lessen the load on the national power grid.
The project has been implemented by the Economy Ministry, the Digital Transformation Ministry, and the national postal service Ukrposhta with the EU's financing.
