Kremlin unaware how many citizenships Durov has, but confirms he is still Russian citizen
MOSCOW. Aug 29 (Interfax) - The Kremlin does not know how many citizenships Telegram founder Pavel Durov has.
"Durov is still a citizen of Russia. As for his French citizenship, we are not aware of that. It's none of our business," Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Thursday.
When asked whether the Kremlin knows how many citizenships Durov has, Peskov said, "No."
Pavel Durov, 39, a billionaire, is one of the developers of the VK Russian social media platform and the founder of the Telegram messenger. He left Russia in 2014. It is known that he received the citizenship of St. Kitts and Nevis, the United Arab Emirates and France.
Durov was detained upon arrival in France on August 24. He has been charged by the French authorities of being complicit in the spread of criminal content on Telegram. Durov was released from police custody but must remain in France under judicial supervision. He was released on 5-million-euro bail and is required to report to a French police station twice a week.
