Over 3,500 vehicles waiting to cross into EU from Belarus - State Border Committee
MINSK. Aug 29 (Interfax) - Over 3,500 vehicles are waiting to cross into the European Union from Belarus, the Belarusian State Border Committee said in a statement on Thursday.
"More than 3,500 vehicles: the EU continues to escalate tensions at the border," the statement said.
Some 690 cars are stranded at the borders with Poland and Lithuania, while 50 and 40 cars have amassed at the Polish border checkpoints of Medininkai (Kamenny Log) and Salcininkai (Benyakoni) , respectively, it said.
As of 10 a.m., over 2,850 trucks were awaiting admission to the EU territory. There were 660 trucks waiting at the Lithuanian checkpoint of Paternieki (Grigorovshchina), in addition to 800 trucks headed to Poland at the Kukuryki (Kozlovichi) checkpoint.
Besides, 47 buses were waiting to cross the EU border at the Polish checkpoint of Terespol (Brest) at 10 a.m.
