UN ships 23,000 tonnes of Ukrainian corn to Mozambique, Malawi
MOSCOW. Aug 28 (Interfax) - The UN World Food Organization has shipped 23,000 tonnes of Ukrainian corn to Mozambique and Malawi under the Grain from Ukraine program, Ukrainian media said, citing the press service for the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry.
"A ship has departed from Ukraine to deliver 3,847.9 tonnes of corn to Mozambique and another 19,179.6 tonnes to Malawi. The cargo will first be transported to Mozambique by sea and brought to Malawi by land from there. Once the corn arrives, the World Food Program will distribute it among socially disadvantaged citizens in addition to other products. Ukrainian corn will enable the World Food Program to provide food to about 200,000 people in Mozambique and 900,000 people in Malawi for three months," the statement said.
It also said that donations from Sweden, the Netherlands, France, South Korea and Portugal enabled the delivery.
