Ekibastuz GRES-2 power plant signs EPC contract with Russian-Kazakh consortium for construction of two units

ASTANA. Aug 27 (Interfax) - Ekibastuz GRES-2, a power plant in Kazakhstan's Pavlodar region, has signed an EPC contract with a Russian-Kazakh consortium for the construction of power units 3 and 4, the press service of Samruk-Energy said.

The name of the consortium is not disclosed yet.

The EPC contract provides for designing and turnkey construction of power units 3 and 4 with installed capacity of 540 MW each, as well as the supply of equipment.

"Power unit 3 is scheduled to be put into operation in 2028 and power unit 4 in 2030. After the construction, the installed capacity of Ekibastuz GRES-2 will total 2080 MW," the press release says.

The project will be financed from own funds and using a loan facility, which will be provided on easy terms by Russian financial institutions at a subsidized interest rate under the export program.

The plans this year will include development of design and estimate documentation, placement of an order for main and auxiliary equipment, and preparations for the construction and installation works.

Ekibastuz GRES-2 JSC is a subsidiary of Samruk-Kazyna JSC (50%) and Samruk-Energy JSC (50%).
