EEC imposes antidumping duty against modified aluminum strip from Azerbaijan
MOSCOW. Aug 27 (Interfax) - The board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has made changes to a 2020 decision to impose antidumping duties against aluminum strip from Azerbaijan and China to extend this measure to modified aluminum originating from Azerbaijan.
The decision was made following an antidumping investigation conducted at the request of the Aluminum Producers, Suppliers and Consumers Association, the EEC trade department said.
"The subject of the reinvestigation was aluminum strip from Azerbaijan to which changes have been made that make it possible to classify it with EAEU CN of FEA codes not specified in the decision to impose the antidumping duties or classify it as varieties to which the antidumping measure does not apply," EEC Trade Minister Andrei Slepnev said in the press release.
Following an analysis of information gathered in the course of the probe, the EEC concluded that the antidumping measure was being circumvented and its effect neutralized and that this was affecting sale prices for the good on the EAEU market that dumping imports had occurred as a result, he said.
The decision to extend the antidumping duty to modified aluminum strip from Azerbaijan goes into effect 30 calendar days after its official publication.
The antidumping measure was imposed by the EEC from October 24, 2020 for a period of five years. The duty is 16.18% for aluminum strip made in Azerbaijan and 13.14% for aluminum strip from China.
When imposing the measure in 2020, the EEC said that the aluminum strip subject to the duties is used in construction, electrical equipment, as well as manufacturing of refrigeration units, heat exchangers, radiators, blinds and tread plates for floor coverings. The duties do not apply to products intended for manufacturing aluminum cans.
