Russian court fines Google 3.5 mln rubles for failing to comply with self-control law

MOSCOW. Aug 23 (Interfax) - Moscow's Tagansky District Court has fined Google 3.5 million rubles for failing in its duty as a social network owner, the court's press service told Interfax.

"An administrative fine of 3.5 million rubles has been imposed on Google LLC," the press service said.

The company was found guilty of failing in its duty as a social network owner to conduct monitoring and restrict access to particular information.

The self-control law took effect on February 1, 2021, and imposed certain obligations on social networks. For instance, they must monitor and independently remove prohibited information from their platforms, have a legal form for user applications, and annually publish reports on the work done in this area.

In the past few years, Google was repeatedly brought to administrative responsibility in Russia on various counts.
