Ukrhydroenergo, Canada's Aecon sign roadmap for Kanevsk hydroelectric pumped storage power plant project

MOSCOW. Aug 21 (Interfax) - PJSC Ukrhydroenergo, a Ukrainian operator of hydropower plants and hydroelectric pumped storage power plants, and Canada's Aecon Construction Global Services Inc. have signed a roadmap for the Kanevsk hydroelectric pumped storage power plant project in the Cherkassy region, Ukrainian media reported, citing the Ukrainian company's press service.

Representatives of Aecon and the U.S.-based AECOM visited the construction site of the Kanevsk hydroelectric pumped storage power plant as part of the implementation of a memorandum on cooperation in building hydropower plants in Ukraine, it said.

"At important technical meetings, representatives of Aecon, AECOM, Ukrhydroenergo and Ukrhydroproject discussed key aspects of the construction project of the Kanevsk hydroelectric pumped storage power plant, in particular, regarding financing, upgrading of design solutions, adjustment of documentation to improve the efficiency and safety of the plant," the statement said.

"Following the visit, a roadmap of the project was signed, which will determine further steps in cooperation between Ukrhydroenergo and Aecon," the press service said.

Ukrhydroenergo and Aecon signed a memorandum of cooperation in building hydropower plants in Ukraine in September 2023 in Ottawa. In particular, it stipulates the possible involvement of the Canadian company in the 1000 MW Kanevsk hydroelectric pumped storage power plant project. Ukrhydroenergo is seeking investors for its implementation.

Aecon Construction Global Services is a construction company, which is also engaged in design.

AECOM is a U.S. consulting company implementing projects in construction, transportation, water supply, power supply, and environmental protection.
