Ukrainian parliament ratifies Rome Statute

MOSCOW. Aug 21 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian parliament ratified the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Wednesday, Ukrainian media said, citing parliament member Alexei Goncharenko.

Ukraine has ratified the Rome Statute with the reservation that "it shall not, for a period of seven years after the entry into force of the Rome Statute, recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC over its nationals for crimes defined by Article 8 of the Rome Statute (war crimes)."

The bill's explanatory note says that ratification of the Rome Statute would enable Ukraine to become a full ICC member and nominate candidates for ICC judges and prosecutors.
