Ukrainian banks reduce number of staff - NBU review
MOSCOW. Aug 16 (Interfax) - The total number of employees of Ukrainian banks was reduced by 780 people, or 0.8%, and amounted to 96,030 in April-June 2024, only private banks with domestic capital showed growth of staff, Ukrainian media outlets reported, citing the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU)'s banking sector review for the second quarter of the year (Q2).
"Throughout the quarter, the number of full-time employees decreased in state-owned and foreign banks and increased slightly in private ones," the review said.
In particular, the state-owned PrivatBank saw the biggest decrease in the number of employees, by 2.3%, or 470 people, reaching 19,840, in Q2, it said.
Other state-owned banks laid off 1%, or 290 employees, reducing their total amount to 28,790 in the same period.
The number of employees of banks with foreign capital decreased by 1%, or 210 people, amounting to 18,890, whereas private Ukrainian banks increased their staff by 0.7, or 190 people, reaching 28,510 employees.
Therefore, PrivatBank had 20.7% of employees and 26% of total assets of the banking sector in the middle of the year, while other state-owned banks had 30% and 30%, respectively, banks with foreign capital 19.7% and 25%, and private Ukrainian banks 29.7% and 19%.
