Belarus reinforces border with Ukraine, ready to resist any threats - Lukashenko

MINSK. Aug 16 (Interfax) - Following the Ukrainian drone incident, Belarus has reinforced its border with Ukraine and is ready to repel any potential threats, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said at a meeting with law enforcement and security agencies in Minsk on Friday.

"As the [defense] minister always tells me, just like the state secretary and the State Security Committee chairman, we are fully prepared to counter any existing threats to Belarus. As I understand, Belarus has everything it needs to repel possible mischief - I don't want to say attacks, strikes," the presidential press service quoted Lukashenko as saying.

"After the events with these [Ukrainian] drones, we enhanced control at the Belarusian-Ukrainian border. What is more, we have moved army units there," Lukashenko said.

Belarus has long been in the focus of global geostrategic interests, which is a reason why tensions are growing at its borders, he said.
