Lithuania bans all cars registered in Belarus
MINSK. Aug 15 (Interfax) - Lithuania has expanded its ban on all cars registered in Belarus, thus scrapping a number of earlier exceptions, the Belarusian State Border Committee said on Thursday.
"No more exceptions: all cars registered in Belarus are prohibited from entering Lithuania from August 16," the committee said.
"The ban applies to cars irrespective of the owner's or driver's citizenship," it said.
Lithuania barred cars registered in Belarus on July 18, 2024, but made an exception for cars that are not for sale or are owned by Belarusian citizens with a valid visa or temporary/permanent residence permit of an EU member state.
"People driving vehicles with Belarusian license plates will be deemed in violation of the law and bear liability [...], such as a fine and seizure of the vehicle," the Lithuanian customs service said.
