Ukrainian Railways boosts container freight shipments by 58% in Jan-July 2024 YoY
MOSCOW. Aug 15 (Interfax) - The volume of railway container freight shipments amounted to 160,268 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) over the first seven months of 2024, which is 58% more than in the same period last year, Ukrainian media have reported with reference to Valery Tkachyov, deputy director for commerce of the Ukrainian state railway company Ukrainian Railways (Ukrzaliznytsia, or UZ), as saying at a meeting of the company's export office on Wednesday.
"This is a record amount of shipments over the first seven months," Tkachyov said, adding that this amount even surpassed those seen in relevant periods before the crisis.
The Liski Transport Service Center intends to sign long-term contracts with freight owners on using container flatcars for specific periods of time at fixed rates depending on shipment volumes, UZ said.
