Candidates from 20 parties officially registered for Sept 2024 elections - Russian CEC head
MOSCOW. Aug 14 (Interfax) - Candidates from 20 political parties have officially been registered to run in Russia's upcoming elections at different levels in September 2024, Russian Central Elections Commission (CEC) Chair Ella Pamfilova said, adding that the five parties that have their factions in the State Duma are in the lead.
"Candidates from 20 parties have been registered for the upcoming elections. The five parliamentary parties are traditionally the leaders. To sum things up, over 95% of candidates from the parties got through the registration stage. This is a very high result," Pamfilova said at a CEC meeting on Wednesday.
Registration of candidates for the elections at all levels concluded on August 7, she said. Twenty-three political parties took part in the current election campaign.
Commenting on an upcoming by-election to the State Duma, Pamfilova said that all 17 candidates who submitted their documents have been registered. They include 16 people nominated by parties and one self-nominee.
According to preliminary information, 74,500 of the more than 80,000 people who submitted their documents have been officially registered as candidates in the elections at different levels. They include over 64,000 nominated by political parties and nearly 10,000 self-nominees.
"Thus, the registration stage is over. Overall, over 92% of all nominees were registered as candidates. Whereas more than 95% of parties' nominees passed the registration process, this figure among self-nominees as slightly over 77%," Pamfilova said.
Previously, Pamfilova said over 4,000 election campaigns in 83 constituent territories would take place on Unified Voting Day, September 8, 2024. Elections at different levels, including direct gubernatorial elections in 21 regions and elections to the Moscow City Duma, will be held.
