MOSCOW. Aug 12 (Interfax) - Atomstroyexport (ASE), a division of Russia's Rosatom Group has decided to temporarily reduce the number of workers at the construction site of the Kursk-2 nuclear power plant in light of the state of emergency in the region.
"Due to the imposition of a federal-level state of emergency in the region, a decision has been made to temporarily reduce the number of personnel at the construction site of Kursk-2 NPP generating units. The specialists remaining at the construction site are working on schedule. All systems supporting the progress of the generating units' construction are operating normally," ASE said in a press release on Friday.
Earlier on Friday, Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry said the situation in Kursk Region has been deemed a state of emergency of a federal nature due to attacks by Ukrainian forces.
The Kursk-2 NPP is being built to replace the No. 1 and No. 2 generating units of the Kursk NPP following the end of their service life. The plant said earlier that it is operating normally with generating units Nos. 3 and 4, while units 1 and 2 are operating without generating power.
