Demand for electric vehicles in Ukraine up 14% in July vs June 2024 - association
MOSCOW. Aug 9 (Interfax) - The number of new and used electric vehicles registered in Ukraine increased by 14% to 4,787 in July 2024 from June 2024 and by 38% compared to July 2023, Ukrainian media quoted Ukrautoprom, the national association of motor vehicle manufacturers, as saying on its social account.
Demand for electric automobiles in June was slightly higher than in May and 35% higher than in June 2023.
Market experts attributed the revival of the electric vehicle market in July to the government's proposal on introducing a military levy to be collected from buyers of automobiles during their initial registration. This measure would be applied, in particular, to electric cars, which are currently exempted from taxation except for a small excise duty.
The share of new electric vehicles among those registered in July 2024 was 21% against 19% in June 2024 and 17% in June 2023.
The overwhelming majority of the electric vehicles registered last month in Ukraine, 4,684, were cars, including 980 new and 3,704 used ones, and only six of the 103 commercial electric vehicles registered in that period were new.
The top-5 most popular brands of new electric vehicles registered in Ukraine in July included Honda M-NV (239, compared to 140 in June), BYD Song Plus (127 vs 62), Nissan Ariya (118 vs 91), Volkswagen iD.4 (88 vs 71), and Zeekr 001 (69).

As reported, initial registrations of electric vehicles in Ukraine grew 180% to reach 37,600 in 2023 compared to 2022, and the share of new ones among them grew to 20% from 17% a year before.
