Ukraine bans imports of animals from Romania due to ovine rinderpest
MOSCOW. Aug 9 (Interfax) - Ukraine has banned imports of small ruminants susceptible to ovine rinderpest, materials from them, raw and processed blood products, raw milk and dairy products, except for products, which have been processed, into its territory from Romania.
State control measures during registration of cargoes subject to control were tightened in the zone of the operations of the Eastern Interregional Main Directorate of the Ukrainian State Service on Food Safety and Consumer Protection on the state border, Ukrainian media outlets said with a reference to the directorate.
Awareness-raising activities are being carried out among market operators circulating food of animal origin at border inspection checkpoints, and leaflets containing information that unprocessed products of animal origin, such as milk, cheese and so on, could carry dangerous pathogens causing animal infectious diseases were placed there.
The state service highlighted that food products transported by citizens across the border for personal consumption could be one of the factors of transmission of the virus.
