Ukraine boosts rolled steel output 28% in Jan-July, crude steel output up by third
MOSCOW. Aug 9 (Interfax) - Ukrainian steelmakers increased production of rolled steel products by 28.4% year-on-year to 3.728 million tonnes in the first seven months of 2024.
Production of crude steel jumped 33.6% to 4.583 million tonnes in the seven months and pig iron output rose 21.2% to 4.089 million tonnes, Ukrainian media reported, citing industry association Ukrmetallurgprom.
The country produced 588,600 tonnes of rolled steel, 708,900 tonnes of crude steel and 621,400 tonnes of pig iron in July, compared to, respectively, 571,500 tonnes, 734,700 tonnes and 628,600 tonnes in the previous month.
Ukraine increased rolled steel production by 0.4% to 5.372 million tonnes in 2023, while crude steel output slipped 0.6% to 6.228 million tonnes and pig iron production fell 6.1% to 6.003 million tonnes.
