MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax) - The Northern Sea Route may hit another cargo transportation record of up to 40 million tonnes in 2024, Rosatom Special Representative for the Arctic Vladimir Panov said at the Arctic-Regions Forum in Arkhangelsk.
"Speaking of numbers, the Soviet Union's record [of cargo transportation via the Northern Sea Route] was 6.8 million tonnes in 1987. We are expecting to set a new record of up to 40 million tonnes this year. We had 36.25 million tonnes last year," Panov said.
