Vimpelcom board elects former Rostelecom CFO Anokhin as CEO
MOSCOW. Aug 8 (Interfax) - The board of directors of Vimpelcom has elected former Rostelecom senior vice president and CFO Sergei Anokhin as chief executive, the Russian mobile provider said in a press release.
Anokhin has been appointed for a three-year term from September 2, 2024 to September 1, 2027, inclusive, the company said.
The board also voted for the early dismissal of CEO Alexander Torbakhov as of September 1. It was reported earlier that Torbakhov will become chairman of Vimpelcom's board after stepping down as CEO.
Anokhin joined Rostelecom in 2017 and was appointed senior vice president and financial director in 2018. In this position, he was responsible for formulating the company's development strategy, finances and development of new business. He launched a targeted program and promoted the development of Rostelecom's customer centricity. He left the national telecom provider in July 2024.
Anokhin has significant experience in senior management positions at major Russian and international companies, including retail bank VTB 24, corporate bank VTB and private U.S. information technology company SAS, among others.
