African swine fever cases recorded in Ukraine
MOSCOW. Aug 7 (Interfax) - Forty-four African swine fever (ASF) cases have been recorded in Ukraine in 2024, Ukrainian media said, citing the press service for the State Service on Food Safety and Consumer Protection.
Ukraine started compensating individuals for the damage caused by ASF infections since 2008, the service said. Compensations in the amount of the cost of live pigs taken from the ASF outbreak and quarantine areas are paid on the orders of the government's State Emergency Anti-Epizootic Commission or local state emergency anti-epizootic commissions upon the submission of an application and a certificate of the animals' seizure for slaughter in containing highly dangerous (quarantine) diseases.
A similar compensation mechanism is in place to reimburse owners of birds infected with avian influenza.
The State Service on Food Safety and Consumer Protection has asked animal owners to comply with bio-security regulations and timely report a detected or suspected infection to the local authority or state veterinary institutions.
