Russian film festival to be held in China in early Aug

MOSCOW. Aug 2 (Interfax) - A Russian film festival will be held in three Chinese cities on August 5-11, the Roskino press service said on Friday.

"The large-scale Russian Film Festival China 2024 will be held in three Chinese cities, Beijing, Nanjing and Shenzhen, on August 5-11 [...] Beijing will host the Russian Film Festival on August 5-10. In Nanjing, the southern capital of China, screenings will take place on August 7-10, and Russian films will be presented in Shenzhen on August 9-11," the company's press service said.

The festival will open in a Beijing movie theater on August 5.

The festival is held as part of the cross years of Russia and China in 2024-2025, Russian Culture Minister Olga Lyubimova said.

"We are happy to show Chinese viewers new Russian films, bearing in mind that Russian film production has experienced its real prime in the past two years, more and more high-grossing films are appearing. The festival is also timed to coincide with the subcommission on cooperation in cinematography of the Russian-Chinese commission on humanitarian cooperation, which will address the development of interaction in all areas, including co-production," the Roskino press service quoted the minister as saying.

"The Russian and Chinese sides are now taking active steps on joint film production; work is already being done on such projects. The Russian regions, in particular the Far East, are also increasing their co-production potential," Lyubimova said.

Roskino head Elza Antonova said the company is now coordinating the dates of screenings for films from China in Russia. It is expected that Russian viewers will be able to watch Chinese films in the fall.
