Azerbaijan begins supplying gas to Slovenia
BAKU. Aug 1 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan's state-controlled resources company SOCAR on Thursday began gas shipments to Slovenia, the company's press service said.
"On August 1, 2024, SOCAR began supplying gas to Slovenia. The shipments are carried out in accordance with the memorandum of understanding signed between SOCAR and Geoplin, the largest company in the Slovenian natural gas market, on July 17 this year," SOCAR said in a statement.
SOCAR did not disclose the volumes of as to be delivered to Slovenia.
"SOCAR and Geoplin are planning to further develop the long-term energy partnership," it said.
Slovenia has joined Turkey, Georgia, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Serbia to become the ninth country to receive Azerbaijani gas, SOCAR said.
As reported previously, Azerbaijani gas exports were up 5.3% to 23.8 billion cubic meters in 2023, and Azerbaijani gas shipments to Europe increased by 3.5% to 11.8 bcm the same year.
It is estimated that Azerbaijan will export about 25 bcm of gas in 2024, including 13 bcm bound for Europe.
